Comedy can be an important tool in communication, and can be an effective vehicle to make complex topics entertaining. The Vern Blazek Science Power Hour is an experiment. Here the satirical tools of parody and caricature are employed to discuss social-interface issues in science, with the hopes of inspiring new thinking about science communication– and maybe have a laugh along the way.
Using the elements of the 1990’s Art Bell overnight radio show, the Science Power Hour (which averages about 32 minutes) brings a range of real scientific topics into discussion with a clearly fictitious host.
But don’t be fooled, this is real science and an attempt to deliver it with scientific integrity while being lighthearted and entertaining at the same time. It is a novel and non-traditional way to teach and inspire others about science.
